Occum Head-On w/ Double entrapment 12/22/07

Dec 22, 2007 - Around 07:0ohrs, The Occum FD was dispatched to Taftville-Occum Rd for an auto acciden with injuries. Occum Chief McKeon arrived to find a two car head-on with double entrapment. Taftville R-2 was requested for their Hurst tool. Occum used their Holmotro Combi-tool on one car while Taftville used their Hurst tool and rams to extricate the occuoant of the other car. American transported 2 to WWBH. Norwich PD is investigating.

126 Oakridge St - Norwich - 12/21/07

Dec 21, 2007 - At 15:41hrs, The City of Norwich was dispatched to a structure fire at 126 Oakridge St. Units arrived to find fire on the 3rd flr. The fire was knocked down and the building vented. Norwich FMO is investigating.

Occum Rollover 12/14/07

Dec 14, 2007 - On this slippery morning the Occum fire department was dispatched to a rollover on Scotland Rd. Occum SQ-4 and ET-42 arrived to find a jeep that had rolled onto it's side. No injuries were reported. Norwich PD is investigating.


Lisbon Barn Fire 12/13/07

Dec 13, 2007 - At 11:59hrs the Lisbon, Jewett City fire departments w/ the Taftville FAST responded to North Burnham Highway for a barn fire. Lisbon ET-254 arrived to find a well involved barn fire. A tanker task force was started bringing Canterbury, Griswold, Voluntown, and Plainfield. The building was total loss. The Lisbon FMO is investigating.

Preston Auto Fire 12/01/07

Dec 1, 2007 - At 06:28hrs Ledyard and Norwich 911 started receiving an influx of 911 calls reporting an auto accident with fire on Rt-2 in Preston just over the Norwich line. Preston Chief Casey arrived to find one auto fully involved in fire after hitting a guard wire post. The crew from P-11 with assistance from P-13,P-23, & P-27 extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported. Sorry about the quality, the sun was rising and it was difficult to get the right exposure.

Eastford- 297 Old Colony Rd. 11/20/07

Nov 20, 2007 - Around 03:00hrs, Eastford with M/A from Bungay,Pomfret,Woodtsock, Ashford,Muddy Brook, Chaplin,Williamsville, & East Brklyn respondd to a house fire at 197 Old colony Rd. Units arrived to find heavy fire to the rear of an old farm house. The fire was initail knocked down by frist arriving uits but due to the contruction o fht e farm house the fire took off on all flrs. it took crews 3 hours to control this diffficult fire. Yantic 3rd Alarm - 305 Washington St

Nov 12, 2007 - At 09:45hrs, the Yantic fire engine co was dispatched to 305 washington St for a kitchen fire. Units arrived to find fire on the 2nd and 3rd flrs. Assistance from Taftville, City of Norwich, East Great Plains,Occum,Laurel Hill, & the Naval submarine base. Crews worked hard at an offensive interior attack but were forced out by fire conditions. Crews went to defensive attack resulting in a toal loss. 3 firefighters were treated and released for exhaustion. Yantic Eng-32 and Norwich Truck 1 setting up

Norwich - 2nd Alarm - Golden & Dillon St

Nov 3, 2007 - At around 20:12hrs, Norwich was dispatched to the corner of Golden & Dilllon St for a working structure fire. Norwich units arrived to find heavy fire emittting from the rear of a 3 stry wd. A 2nd alarm brought Taftville, East Great Plains, and additional engines from Yantic and Laurel Hill to the scene. Crews worked for 3 hours to bring the fire under control. Norwich FMO is investigating.

9 Birchwood Terr - Dayville - 10/31/07

Oct 31, 2007 -Just after noon QV Dispatch received a call reporting a fire in the apartment of 9 Birchwood Terrace. Dayville, with mutaul aid from Danielson, Williamsville, & Pomfret FAST were dispatched, Atwood Hose was later sent for manpower and Attawagan covered the Town of Killingly. It was an outstanding stop made by the first due crews from this becoming a devastating fire. The Killingly FMO is investigating. More photos Thursday

Taftville Mobile Home Fire - 10/28/07

Oct 28, 2007 - Just before 15:00hrs, Taftville was dispatched to a structure fire at 136 Hunters Rd, Oakland Heights Mobile Home Park. This is a 55 & older mobile home park. Taftville Asst Chief Car -28 arrived to find heavy smoke, active fire under a mobile home with extension to the interior of the home. Mutual Aid from Occum & Yantic FAST were sent due to the closest hydrant being over 2000 ft away. Taftville crews found a heavy fire condition under the home and extinguished it quickly. The cause is under investigating by the Norwich FMO & Norwich PD. Special thanks to Eric benoit for the "first due photos"

Williamsville Barn Fire - 10/14/07

On Sunday October 14th around 17:00, Williamsville Fire was dispatched for a barn fire with mutual aid from Dayville, Pomfret and the KB ambulance. Upon arrival of Deputy Chief Cooper he reported a fully involved barn with a house as an exposure problem and requested tankers from Attawaugan, South Killingly, and Mortlake. Crews went to work and extinguish the fire and protected the exposure.

Taftville - 2nd Alarm - 292 Norwich Ave 10-11-07

Oct 11, 2007 - At 16:18hrs the Taftville, Occum & Yantic FAST responded to 292 Norwich Ave for a structure fire. Taftville crews arrived to find fire venting out three windows on the 3rd flr and one window on the 4th flr. ET-21 and Tower 25 worked together with fire suppression and ventilation tactics to quickly extinguish the fire. Taftville was assisted by Yantic and Norwich Eng-2 crews. No injuries were reported. Norwich 2nd Alarm Fire - Williams St 09/30/07

Sept. 30, 2007 - At 14:50hrs the City of Norwich FD were dispatched to Williams St for a structure fire. Units arrived to find a fire on the 3rd flr of a 3 stry victorian. The Mohegan Tribal FAST and East Great Plains FD were assigned to the alarm. Crews attempted an interior attack. Conditions changed when the wind took control of the fire and quickly spread it thru out the 3rd flr forcing an evacuation order and defensive operations. After 10 minutes of defensive operations, a 2nd attempt at interior attack proved to be effective and extinguish the fire. Thanks to Kalya and Costa for providing me with these camera phone photos.

Taftville Matress Fire 09/27/07

Sept 27, 2007 - At 07:21hrs the Taftville FD was dispatched to a structure fire on Pratt Ave. Upon arrival, light smoke was showing from the 2nd flr with all 15 occupants out of the building. As per SOP Occum and Yantic FAST were started but the fire was knocked with a water can and extinguished with a handline. Crews overhauled and ventilated the room. 1 civilian was transported for unknown injuries. Norwich FMO is investigating
