Oct 31, 2007 -Just after noon QV Dispatch received a call reporting a fire in the apartment of 9 Birchwood Terrace. Dayville, with mutaul aid from Danielson, Williamsville, & Pomfret FAST were dispatched, Atwood Hose was later sent for manpower and Attawagan covered the Town of Killingly. It was an outstanding stop made by the first due crews from this becoming a devastating fire. The Killingly FMO is investigating. More photos Thursday

Taftville Mobile Home Fire - 10/28/07
Oct 28, 2007 - Just before 15:00hrs, Taftville was dispatched to a structure fire at 136 Hunters Rd, Oakland Heights Mobile Home Park. This is a 55 & older mobile home park. Taftville Asst Chief Car -28 arrived to find heavy smoke, active fire under a mobile home with extension to the interior of the home. Mutual Aid from Occum & Yantic FAST were sent due to the closest hydrant being over 2000 ft away. Taftville crews found a heavy fire condition under the home and extinguished it quickly. The cause is under investigating by the Norwich FMO & Norwich PD. Special thanks to Eric benoit for the "first due photos"

Williamsville Barn Fire - 10/14/07
On Sunday October 14th around 17:00, Williamsville Fire was dispatched for a barn fire with mutual aid from Dayville, Pomfret and the KB ambulance. Upon arrival of Deputy Chief Cooper he reported a fully involved barn with a house as an exposure problem and requested tankers from Attawaugan, South Killingly, and Mortlake. Crews went to work and extinguish the fire and protected the exposure.

Taftville - 2nd Alarm - 292 Norwich Ave 10-11-07
Oct 11, 2007 - At 16:18hrs the Taftville, Occum & Yantic FAST responded to 292 Norwich Ave for a structure fire. Taftville crews arrived to find fire venting out three windows on the 3rd flr and one window on the 4th flr. ET-21 and Tower 25 worked together with fire suppression and ventilation tactics to quickly extinguish the fire. Taftville was assisted by Yantic and Norwich Eng-2 crews. No injuries were reported. Norwich 2nd Alarm Fire - Williams St 09/30/07
Sept. 30, 2007 - At 14:50hrs the City of Norwich FD were dispatched to Williams St for a structure fire. Units arrived to find a fire on the 3rd flr of a 3 stry victorian. The Mohegan Tribal FAST and East Great Plains FD were assigned to the alarm. Crews attempted an interior attack. Conditions changed when the wind took control of the fire and quickly spread it thru out the 3rd flr forcing an evacuation order and defensive operations. After 10 minutes of defensive operations, a 2nd attempt at interior attack proved to be effective and extinguish the fire. Thanks to Kalya and Costa for providing me with these camera phone photos.

Taftville Matress Fire 09/27/07
Sept 27, 2007 - At 07:21hrs the Taftville FD was dispatched to a structure fire on Pratt Ave. Upon arrival, light smoke was showing from the 2nd flr with all 15 occupants out of the building. As per SOP Occum and Yantic FAST were started but the fire was knocked with a water can and extinguished with a handline. Crews overhauled and ventilated the room. 1 civilian was transported for unknown injuries. Norwich FMO is investigating
Yantic Haz-Mat Fire 09/26/07
Sept 26, 2007 - Around 10:00hrs the Yantic Fire Engine Co was dispatched to Phelps Dodge corp for smoke in the building. Yantic crews arrived to find a smouldering fire in the copper-oxide hopper making this incident a Haz-Mat. An extra engine co. from Taftville joined Yantic crews for 7 hours to handle this incident. Yantic & Taftville crews worked with a clean-up contractor, Norwich FMO,CT DEP, and Phelps Dodge officals to mitigate this incident. No injuries were reported, even with temps in the mid 80's and high humidity.
