Jewett City 3rd Alarm
August 11, 2007 - At 15:01hrs Jewett City,Griswold,Lisbon,Voluntown,Baltic and the Taftville FAST were dispatched to a structure fire at Keiths Appliance at 86 North Main St. Jewett City units arrived to find a fire on the "B" side of the building that ran the walls to the 2nd flr and attic. An auto was also involved. The exterior stairs on the "B" side had pulled from the building and collapsed, hampering an interior attack. Due to summer heat, a 3rd alarm was sent for firefighter safety and ensuring fresh crews. the fire was hidden behind wooden siding and barn style boards. Defensive operations were the only safe way to extinguish the fire. Numerous firefighters were treated on scene for heat exhaustion. The cause is under investigation by Griswold FMO.
