Stonington Estates Fire - Norwich

Feb 26, 2007 - At 06:38hrs a major fire occured at a condo unit at 102 Stonington Rd in Norwich. Responding units were Norwich, Taftville, East Great Plains,Yantic, Laurel Hill, Tankers from Poquotonock, Preston City, Bozrah and too many more to mention. A great job was done by all the firefighters on scene, it was a great example of good team work that extinguished the fire. 6 firefighters were reported injuried, I personnally only know of two, they were minor in nature and those firefighters are recovering.

Taftville Room and Contents

February 21, 2007 - At 09:22hrs Taftville was dispatched to a structure fire on Norwich Ave. ET-22 responding from a fire prevention detail arrived to find a fire on the 3rd flr. Upgraded alarm assignment added Occum and Yantic FAST. Taftville crews found a room and content fire and made a quick knockdown. Overhaul, vent and salvage operations were then under way. The Norwich FMO and Norwich PD are investigating.

February 18, 2007 - at around 03:00hrs Taftville was dispatched to an auto accident with entrapment on Norwich Ave. Units arrived to find a car had hit 5 parked cars at a used auto dealership. Crews started to extricate the victims while american provided patient care. a hoseline was deployed due to an active gas leak from one of the cars. Both patients were extricated from the car and transported ALS to the Backus trauma center. Taftville crews remained on scene for vehicle removal.

East Brooklyn 2nd Alarm

BROOKLYN -- Firefighters from five departments battled a fire late Friday afternoon in a home at 93 Day St.
East Brooklyn firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 4:40 p.m. after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the building. Shortly after the first officers arrived, they called for additional apparatus from the Mortlake (Brooklyn) and Danielson departments, and a unit from the Williamsville (Rogers) department. Thompson Hill Garage Fire

On Tuesday February 6th Thompson Hill Fire along with mutual aid from Community Fire, East Putnam Fire full assignments and Quinebaug and East Thompson as FAST were dispatched for a structure fire at 14 Wrightson Drive in the Quaddick lake area. Upon arrival of Thompson Hill's ET 284 the found a 2 car garage well involved with fire. 1 line was placed in operation and Community Fire Co ET 181 laid 600' of 5" supply line from the lake to the scene and place 2 lines into operation and fed ET 284. Thompson Hills second due engine established a water supply to feed the operation. With 3 lines in operation the main body of fire was knocked down within 10 minutes and crews from the initial alarm companies held the scene for overhaul operation.

East Great Plains - 568 West Thames St

Feb 7, 2006 - At 05:28hrs the East Great Plains FD was dispatched to a house fire with entrapment at 568 West Thames St. EGP car-5 arrived to find a well involved house. All occupants were accounted (10 total) 2 needing EMS transport for undisclosed injuries. Mutual aid companies were City of Norwich, Mohegan Fire Co. and Mohegan Tribal FAST.

Taftville House Fire - 7 Harland Rd

Feb 6, 2007 - At 09:20hrs Taftville was dispatched to a dryer fire at 7 Harland Rd. while units were responding, Norwich fire reported numerous calls being recieved for smoke fromt he back of the house. Units arrived to find a 2 stry colonial with smoke from the rear and side "B" wall. A 2nd Alarm was requesting bring in Yantic, City of Norwich Truck 1, and Mohegan Tribal FAST. Crews found fire on the 1st and 2nd flr. the fire was knocked down in 15 minutes with extensive overhaul. Crews cleared the scene at 13:00hrs. Norwich FMO is investigating. Photos soon.....

South Windam Fatal Fire - 150 Oxbow Dr

January 31, 2007 - At around 20:30hrs South Windam, Windam Center, and Willimantic were dispatched to a well involved house fire with civilians trapped. Willimantic Eng-201 and Tower 101 arrived to find heavy fire from A,B,C sides of a raised ranch. While Willimantic firefighters were performing a rescue the fire flashed burning the on duty captain. The Captain was taken to WCMH and later transferred to Bridgeport burn center for treatment. 2 firefighters were also transported, 1 for cardiac related illness and 1 for a knee injury. The civilian was prononunced at the scene. The Windam and State FMO are investigating Willimantic Tower 101 in front of the building

East Brooklyn 2nd Alarm - South Main St

January 28, 2007 - At around 09:50hrs, East Brooklyn (92)FD with mutual aid from Mortlake (90), responded to a structure fire at 166 South Main St. Units arrived to report a working fire in an apartment building. Mutual aid from Danielson (61),Atwood Hose FAST (96), Dayville (63) and Williamsville (60) responded and worked a stubborn fire that just did not want to go out. 1 fireifghters was treated for what was reported "minor" injuries. Griswold - 1st Alarm Garage Fire

January 27, 2007 - As I was just leaving QV from my evening shift, a 911 call came in reporting a garage fire at #1 Lisa Ave in the town of Griswold. Griswold and Jewett City were initially dispatched. The 1st Griswold officer on scene reported a working fire. an upgrade to the alarm assignment was Voluntown, Lisbon, Plainfield, and Taftville FAST. The weather was cold (5 degrees) with light wind. Griswold and Jewett City crews placed 2 1/2 inch lines and a blitz fire on the building to knocked down the flames. Crews also had to protect a home that was in close proximity. the building was a total loss. numerous vehicles were lost in the fire. The cause is undetermined and the Griswold FMO is investigating.Garage well involved with Griswold ET-355

Canterbury 2nd Alarm - 62 Wauregan Rd

January 20, 2007 - at 23:16hrs QV dispatched Canterbury and Mortlake fire departments to a structure fire at 62 Wauregan Rd. Canterbury chief Al Lavoie arrived to find fire thru the roof of a single stry ranch on the "D" side. Canterbury Eng-193 and Mortlake Eng-190 arrived and placed two 1 3/4 hoselines in operation thru the front door. Crews were able to knock down the fire but not until it consummed half the roof. Additional assistance from Moosup FAST, Atwood Hose,Central Village and numerous tankers was sent to the scene. The Canterbury FMO is investigating. Oneco 2nd Alarm - Bailey Rd

January 25, 2007 - at 14:14 hrs QV dispatched Oneco and Sterling to a chimney fire at 368 Bailey Rd. While units were enroute a 2nd 911 call reported the fire was progressing. An upgrade to a 1st alarm was ordered. The first officer on the scene reported a working fire with one side of the house involved. A 2nd Alarm was ordered and additional tankers. This address is located in a very remote area of Sterling. Crews made a great stop on the fire but not before destroying most of the interior of the building. The weather conditions were sunny, cold and light wind, temp about 29 degrees with the worst cold weather to hits this region in many years coming tonight. This may be a prelude to what is to come in the next 24-48 hours. Departments that responded were Oneco, Sterling,Voluntown,Moosup, Plainfield, Western Covertry, and Plainfield-Moosup Ambulance.
