January 25, 2007 - at 14:14 hrs QV dispatched Oneco and Sterling to a chimney fire at 368 Bailey Rd. While units were enroute a 2nd 911 call reported the fire was progressing. An upgrade to a 1st alarm was ordered. The first officer on the scene reported a working fire with one side of the house involved. A 2nd Alarm was ordered and additional tankers. This address is located in a very remote area of Sterling. Crews made a great stop on the fire but not before destroying most of the interior of the building. The weather conditions were sunny, cold and light wind, temp about 29 degrees with the worst cold weather to hits this region in many years coming tonight. This may be a prelude to what is to come in the next 24-48 hours. Departments that responded were Oneco, Sterling,Voluntown,Moosup, Plainfield, Western Covertry, and Plainfield-Moosup Ambulance.
